Who should consider becoming a member?

Our Membership

Our community is our home and all our Members are contributors. Not everyone can fix a leaky sink or move heavy loads of soil for our gardens, but all our Members are expected to contribute what they can for four hours per month. Some of our Members join a committee to plan events or help with maintenance (see Committees below); some of our Members organize events. Being a part of housing co-operative does not mean you can't have your privacy, but it does mean that you are willing to help shape the future of Edmonds Place by attending the AGM and occasional meetings where we discuss upcoming projects and vote on important issues such as the budget and election of the Board of Directors.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO LIVE HERE?

Our units

Each unit is as unique as the Members who live there; there are no two exactly alike.
We have 51 units total:

11 - two-bedroom units

4 - one-bedroom units

 (3 are handicap equipped)

Membership Shares

Each principle Member pays a one-time membership share, just like a damage deposit, which is refunded at move-out.

$2,500 - main Member

$10 - additional voting Associate Member

Monthly Housing Charges

Active Committees

Board of Directors - Council Members are elected to a term of two years each and are dedicated to managing the affairs of the co-op with integrity. Our Board works tirelessly to ensure our co-op stays on budget while providing a livable home for all our Members, Associate Members and their children.

Communications - Keeping Members informed on all news and events that are planned, the Communications Committee is in charge of updating the website and encouraging Members to stay informed.

Emergency Preparedness - Responsible for increasing community awareness and creating plans so that we are all better prepared in case of an emergency.

Gardening - We are fortunate to have lots of green space including a growing garden. The Gardening Committee has planned more green space, planters and hanging baskets to grow flowers and food for our Members.

Maintenance - Maintaining our buildings is a priority because it's where we all call home. The Maintainence Committee coordinates the repair of Members' units and the common areas.

Membership - The strength of our community are its Members, therefore we put a lot of emphasis on matching the right applicants to Edmonds Place Co-op. The Membership Committee evaluates applications and interviews applicants when a new unit becomes available.

Parking - The Parking Committee ensures that Members and their visitors have access to safe and secure underground parking.

Renovations - Created to administer the next phases of our exterior and interior renovations, the Renovation Committee is very excited to administer the upgrades to our units, which all our Members are very excited about.

Social - The Social Committee brings all our Members together for spring cleanup, bingo, summer barbecues, pancake breakfast, Christmas dinner and even Halloween trick or treating, just to name a few.

Other - Have another idea for a committee that you think will help our community? Speak to other Members and get them on board and bring your ideas to a Council Member or to an upcoming meeting.

Applications

Due to overwhelming demand, there are currently no units available and our office and Membership Committee are not looking at new applications.

The application process involves filling out a form and providing supporting documentation and signatures, attending one or more interviews to discuss your needs and contributions to Edmonds Place Co-op. If you are selected, then you will pay the membership share fee, sign an agreement and move in.

If you are not selected, your application must be renewed each year by e-mailing us with updates in order to keep your place on the waitlist.
